Welcome from Lisa Spector, Sequoia Camp Director

Hello Dog Lovers,

I am looking forward to our first Camp Unleashed Sequoia

As the co-creator of Through a Dog’s Ear, my mission is to improve the lives of dogs and their people by providing them with music that calms the canine nervous system. When Annie Brody asked me to be director of a new West Coast Camp Unleashed, I new it was in alignment with my mission of improving dog’s lives. I had heard of Camp Unleashed for years and was always a little jealous that the camps were only on the East Coast. In fact, I created my own personal camp unleashed and brought my dogs up to a beautiful lakeside vacation in Oregon every summer, where they could roam off leash for the week and play with the other visiting dogs. It’s obvious that Camp Unleashed improves the lives of dogs and their people by allowing dogs to live in a natural environment, free of a leash, while they bond with each other and with their human partners.

I can barely wait to bring my own dogs, Sanchez and Gina, to Camp Unleashed Sequoia. They are both “career change” dogs from Guide Dogs for the Blind. Since neither was suited for that work, they always seem even more elated than most dogs to be off leash. I enjoy daily off leash runs with them along the Pacifica Ocean bluff tops. But to be off leash for an entire four days while playing with other dogs — well, I can’t imagine anything that would make them happier! Sanchez, a seven-year-old Yellow Lab, has enjoyed many lines of work since being “career changed” from Guide Dogs. They’ve included agility, acting, canine musical freestyle, and being the official greeter of students at my former music school. Gina, my very petite Black Lab will be two-years-old by the time of camp and is absolutely bonkers over beginning agility. In addition to her love of learning agility, she wiggles with happiness in every waking moment.

My goals for Camp Unleashed Sequoia are to bring the wonderful feeling of being “unleashed” to all attendees on both two and four legs, to deepen the bond between people and their dogs, and to inspire people to learn from their dogs by creating an environment that allows others to be completely in touch with their senses and in the present moment.

I look forward to meeting all the campers at Camp Unleashed Sequoia and am committed to making this a truly remarkable, memorable experience for canines and humans. With all the wonderful, fun activities we have in store for you and your dogs, combined with the breathtaking scenery of Sequoia Lake and the surroundings, this just may be the vacation of your life!
